Come along to the Hawkesbury for a vibrant story with
Acoustic Life of the River . During this event, storytellers, musicians and singers will take on a journey along the Hawkesbury. It’s a journey where you will find out about secret locations and forgotten sites through wonderful place-based performances.
Why? Because Acoustic Life of the River celebrates the stories embedded in the environment that reflect the waterways of the Lower Hawkesbury, its sandstone cliffs and untold stories as you depart from Spencer.
It's a journey that delves into the histories evoked by place, and that will be expressed in a variety of mediums. There’ll be oral tales, songs, and stringed and wind instruments, as well as spoken performances. The floating storytellers will wow you, there’s haiku, fiddling, and Irish harp as well as singing.
There are family-friendly pop-up performances, and you are welcome to dress for the river on this unforgettable journey. There will be two voyages, and you can do one or both. If you do both, you get a discount on a combined ticket.
Prices are:
$85 Adult (single voyage)
$35 Child (Single voyage)
$160 Adult (all)
$60 child (all)
The following information about the voyages is taken from the Love Central Coast website quoted at the top of the article:
“First Voyage – Irish Harp Music + Sea Shanties + Boatshed tales. Step aboard for a river journey winding through sandstone cliffs and untold histories. At the first forest site, listen to the melodious strains of the Irish harp and stories of Irish women. On the opposite shore, join in the rollicking verses from the River Dogs Shanty Singers from up and down the river. Backed by the rhythmic plunge and pull of oars on an outgoing tide, the dogs sing tales of love and loss amongst the prawn heads and crab traps on the river's muddy shores.
Second Voyage - Fiddler-Singing Folkies + Haiku Happenings + Rogue Storyteller Crossing over the Hawkesbury River, step ashore for fiddler-singing folkies where Awen takes you on an acoustic journey through time with fiddles, guitar and fabulous vocals. A lone flute calls you onward, its notes guiding a quiet journey of reflection. Here, write your own haiku —words shaped by wind, water, and impressions of country. Further on, your rogue storyteller awaits on the shoreline with tales both tall and true: murder, mayhem, and deliciously dark stories that lie beneath the surface. Bring your best self—the river remembers.”
