Anyone who is a teacher, parent or aspiring writer will be interested in
an upcoming event at Erina Library with Sally Rippin. Sally is the current Australian Children’s Laureate and a beloved Australian author who works to promote reading for children of all ages.
During this event, Sally will talk about the traditional ways children learn to read, how this doesn’t work for all children and why learning to read needs to be accessible for all ages and all stages. She will also talk about why it is important to hear and share all stories about learning to read, because it is the stories from children who find it challenging that can help fill in the gaps and find ways to make it work for everyone equally.
Sally’s session is going to align with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, and is an essential opportunity for professional learning and those interested in wanting to make the books they write accessible for as many readers as possible. Sally has also written an introduction in the new edition of Raising Readers by Megan Daley, a superstar teacher-librarian in Queensland.
This fantastic event is being hosted by Words on the Waves and the Central Coast branch of the Children’s Book Council of Australia, and moderated by Karys McEwan, an Australian children’s author and education advisor for the Melbourne Writer’s Festival.
Bookings are essential and available at this link.
