The Lakes Festival 2025 from website
If poetry, community and sea shanties are more your style, then check out the
Ink and Water Community Poems and the Lighthouse Keepers day. This event is going to be at the Davistown Foreshore and around the festival, is free, and is family friendly.
Ink and Water is a community poetry project that celebrates people, poetry and the natural environment of the Central Coast. Their colourful, fun, and always open to everyone studio pops up at different locations throughout the festival.
But most importantly, they need you. They need people to pull up a seat or grab a patch of grass to help create a community poem, one word at a time. Be inspired by beauty and community. Share a word, a phrase, a memory, or an entire story. Come and be part of a tradition of stories in the fresh air as you take in your surroundings, write and see where your imagination takes you.
Is music more your thing? That’s where The Lighthouse Keepers come in. They’ve been raising voices and spirits for a long time as a ragtag crew of musical misfits. They’re breathing new life into sea shanties and are filled with maritime misadventure. Come and catch harmonies that are as rough as the Pacific, rhythms steady like a ship’s bell, and songs that are sailor's laments and nautical nonsense. Sometimes all at once. These performances are theatre, music hall and Central Coast folklore, a salty salute to the coastal life and songs for sailors. And it is just voices, the accordion and a splash of rum – no autotune needed.
