In the comedic vein of Lend Me a Tenor, follows the misadventures of George and Charlotte Hay, former luminaries of the 1950s stage. Currently, they're staging Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in repertory in Buffalo, New York, alongside a cast of five actors. Their relationship hangs by a thread due to George's involvement with a young actress, but a glimmer of hope emerges when they learn that Frank Capra will attend their matinee, possibly offering them a chance at a comeback in his remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel. However, their aspirations are thwarted by a series of calamities, including the arrival of their daughter's oblivious fiancé and the confusion over which play they're actually performing, exacerbated by Charlotte's aging, hearing-impaired mother, who harbors a deep animosity toward George.
