Audiences are invited to a recital celebrating the beauty of the Australian landscape through poetry and music.
For centuries, composers have set poetry to music, giving us chant, chanson, lieder, art song, opera and music theatre. As part of the Newcastle Fringe, pianist Catherine Broadstock presents The Australian Landscape in Poetry and Music, a unique program that pairs poetry about the Australian landscape with evocative works by Australian composers.
The unique live music event features music by Australian composers Anne Carr-Boyd, Miriam Hyde, Wendy Hiscocks, Kitty Parker (student of Percy Grainger), Stuart Greenbaum, Betty Beath, Rhoderick McNeill, Learne Faint, Graeme Denniss and Brenton Broadstock, alongside poetry by Roland Robinson, David Campbell, Judith Wright, W. Flexmore Hudson, Rex Ingamells, Ian Mudie, Andrew Burke, A.H. Scott, Veronica Dwyer, Gail Kay and Barcroft Boake.
