State Theatre, Sydney

Produced and directed by Drew Anthony

Experience the power of resilience and hope in the face of unimaginable adversity.

Award-winning producers Drew Anthony Creative continue their 2026 East Coast season with a powerful new stage adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK. This moving production comes to Sydney's historic State Theatre on 25 March 2026. Tickets are now on sale.

With previous productions of the play honoured with a Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award and the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award, this new staging arrives directly from its own critically acclaimed, sell-out season at Perth's Heath Ledger Theatre and Melbourne's Athenaeum Theatre.

This powerful new production invites audiences into one of the most inspiring true stories of the 20th century, vividly illuminating the life of 13-year-old Anne Frank – a young Jewish girl who spent two years in hiding with her family in occupied Amsterdam during World War II.

Guided by Anne's extraordinary diary, the audience gains a deeply personal insight into the fears, tensions, and fleeting moments of joy that defined their life in hiding. Her teenage reflections have cemented Anne Frank as one of literature's most enduring voices - a young girl whose courage, wit, and unshakeable faith in the goodness of humanity continue to resonate with millions around the world.

Written in 1955 by playwrights Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, the stage adaptation is based on the original book, The Diary of Anne Frank, first published by Anne's father, Otto Frank. The play brings to the stage Anne’s deeply personal experiences and insights as she and her family live in hiding, haunted by the constant fear of arrest.

Director Drew Anthony says, "It has been my absolute privilege to stage this production in Perth, and I am thrilled to be bringing this play to Melbourne. The enduring power of Anne's voice resonates through time, offering a profound call for tolerance, courage, and compassion. As prejudice and division continue to challenge our world, Anne's diary serves as a vital reminder to learn from the past, value our freedoms, and strive toward a more hopeful future."

The Diary of Anne Frank is a powerful reminder of the importance of tolerance, courage, and compassion. Witness history through the eyes of a young girl whose words have inspired generations - a theatrical experience that lingers long after the final curtain.

Tickets are now on sale through Ticketmaster
