Sharon Ridsdale, a contemporary artist from the Central Coast, possesses a unique perspective shaped by her background in zookeeping and veterinary nursing. Through her exhibition titled "The Silent Extinction - Their Future is in our Hands," Ridsdale sheds light on the alarming decline of Australia's amphibians, particularly its 246 native species of frogs. The exhibition showcases the beauty and diversity of these creatures while raising awareness about their vulnerable status. Across the country, frogs are mysteriously perishing, with thousands reported dead last winter alone. The causes behind this phenomenon remain elusive, although habitat destruction and fungal diseases are believed to contribute. Over the past decade, four species have gone extinct, and 40 species are now classified as threatened. The once vibrant calls of these amphibians have faded from areas where they were once abundant, leaving behind an unsettling silence.
