What You’ll Experience
The Friends of Linnwood have specially curated this open day for the Australian Heritage Festival, bringing rarely seen items and stories to light.
On the day, you can:
•
Explore Linnwood’s fascinating history
Enjoy a rolling PowerPoint presentation that traces the story of Linnwood from its origins as a country retreat to its many lives over the decades.
•
See how Linnwood cared for children in need
View historic photos showing Linnwood’s later use as:
- A children’s home for 2–6 year olds
- A home for young truant boys
- A domestic science training school for 12–16 year old female State wards
Reflect on how very different these approaches are from the way we care for underprivileged children today.
•
Witness the transformation of the house
Compare before and after images highlighting conservation work and improvements that have helped preserve this important heritage place for future generations.
•
Discover the changing face of Holroyd and Guildford
Holroyd Local History Research, a sub-committee of the Friends of Linnwood, will present a special display on
“Change” in the local community:
- Early photographs and postcard images of local buildings
- Side-by-side views of the old and the new across the former Holroyd (now Cumberland) area
- “The Guildford Road Project,” showcasing historic photos of Guildford and how the area has evolved.
•
Step inside history
Wander through rooms filled with items from, or close to, Linnwood's era - pieces that shaped everyday life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Relax with Devonshire Tea in the Gardens
