Come and see the streets of Dickens’s Victorian London come to life in
Lionel Bart's Oliver at the Laycock Street Theatre in February and March.
If you know the story, you know that Oliver is an orphan in Victorian England in a workhouse, who starts working for an undertaker, and becomes neglected. His escape to London is all part of this well-known story of acceptance and finding your place. Only Oliver’s place has fallen with Fagin and a group of petty thieves and pickpockets in a world that is harsh.
The story continues when Olive is taken in by Mr Brownlow after being accused of a theft he didn’t commit. Yet, there is more to the story. Fagin is terrified that this means the police will find his hideout, and sends Bill Sikes and Nancy after Oliver. And all Oliver wants is a family, which is the heart of this performance.
So come on a journey with this musical theatre masterpiece, and get to see the talents of an ensemble cast bringing the characters and score to life for a local audience.
The show will last for two hours and twenty minutes, including the interval, and will have an Auslan interpreted performance on the 7th of March at 130pm, so make sure to book in the required seating area as allocated if you need this service.
