Tubular Bells Album Cover from Mike Oldfield Website
Fifty years ago, Mike Oldfield’s debut album
Tubular Bells debuted. Now, in 2024, there is a 50th anniversary tour that has had a successful sell-out run in Europe and the UK. Ow, it has come to Australia and will be at
The Art House in Wyong as part of the Live in Concert Gold Anniversary tour in August.
Mike Oldfield will not be appearing during this performance; however, his magnum opus will be performed by a large group of live performers that features and was arranged by Robin A Smith, who was also Mike Oldfield’s longtime collaborator, so there will be a connection to the original performer.
Be enthralled as the album,
Tubular Bells is performed in its entirety and as the performance includes some of Mike Oldfield’s other compositions: ‘
Moonlight Shadow’, ‘
To France’, ‘
Family Man’, as well as some excerpts from ‘
Ommadawn’. Mike Oldfield is an English multi-instrumentalist, composer and songwriter, who thought of his debut album
Tubular Bells in 1971 and released it in 1973. He was 17 when he started composing the music for the album, and he recorded and played nearly all the instruments on his album. Following that, it would go on to worldwide acclaim as the opening theme would be used as the soundtrack of the horror film,
The Exorcist - this led it to become the best-selling instrumental album of all time.
Robin A Smith, who will be performing the music, has worked with Mike Oldfield for over 25 years, and they collaborated on the follow-up albums, Tubular Bells 2 and 3. They’ve also performed live at Edinburgh Castle, the Horseguards Parade in London, as well as the Millennium Bell in Berlin and the Opening Ceremony for the 2012 London Olympics. To top it off, Robin has also worked with a diverse range of artists including:
Rod Stewart
Goldie
Andrea Bocelli
Enrique
The 2 Cellos
Luciano Pavarotti
Mike Oldfield will not appear at these performances. The Central Coast Performance will take place at 8 pm on the 7th of August and lasts for two and a half hours with an interval. If you require any accessible bookings, please contact the box office, and see below for ticket prices:
