Words at Pearls from Words on the Waves website
Words on the Waves is more than just the weekend festival in May and June. They host book clubs and various events throughout the year.
One of these events is the annual literary celebration, Words at Pearls.
This year, Words at Pearls is taking place on the 15th of November at Pearl Beach Memorial Community Hall. It’s a spectacular one-day literary soiree for the readers of the Central Coast. Come and settle amongst lush green trees and ferns at a local community hall and get involved with an intimate day of deep author conversations and spectacular book signings.
2025’s Words at Pearls theme is Wandering Wild, and the day will be inspired by the natural surroundings of Pearl Beach, while engaging with nature in deep and diverse ways, and celebrating all its glory. You can attend for $89 for a day pass.
So, what will you hear about? Well, you’ll hear about what is happening to tall eucalypt forests and the unsettling truth about what is going on. You’ll hear about animals and our relationship with them. There’ll be a discussion about tales of wonder in an age of extinction. And hear about the ways nature, place and life intertwine with Country and how people respond to it.
The program is:
9.45am to 10am: Introduction and Welcome to Country.
10am to 11am: The Forest Wars with Professor David Lindenmayer in conversation with Benny Agius.
11.30am to 12.30pm: Nature’s Last Dance with Natalie Kyriacou OAM
12.30pm to 1..30pm: Book signings with Umina Beach Book Nook and Lunch Break
1.30pm to 2.30pm: Three Wild Dogs and the Truth with Markus Zusak in conversation with Suzanne Leal
2.30pm to 3pm: Book signings with Umina Beach Book Nook
