From 1 June 2026 the Central Coast quietly switches into whale watching season. Terrigal Haven, Crackneck Lookout and the Avoca Beach headlands are the usual stakeouts for spotting migrating humpbacks offshore, with early mornings and late afternoons offering the best chances when the whales tend to show off a bit.

It is a free, nature based seasonal spectacle that often draws families, photographers and anyone who fancies themselves a part time wildlife paparazzo. Bring binoculars, a warm jacket and a bit of patience, the whales set the timetable, not us.
